Marshalltown church mission statement

A church on mission in Marshalltown, Iowa

why we do what we do

Our church mission statement is what guides our decisions to help you connect as family, grow in faith and serve your community.

We exist to honor God by making disciples for Jesus Christ. We do this by impacting our community with the love and Gospel of Jesus, bringing people to a saving faith in him, and helping them grow in God’s word.
— our mission statement

Statement of faith

We believe that scripture is entirely inspired by God.
— It was divinely communicated through Spirit-controlled men and recorded without error in the original writings. It is the absolute and sufficient authority for human conduct and faith. 2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21
We believe there is one true god, creator, sustainer and ruler of all things.
— He exists eternally as the Trinity, in three equal persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is worthy of all honor, glory and praise. Deut 6:4; 1 Cor 8:6; Eph 1:3-14
We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God, incapable of sin, and always existing.
— He became fully man having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. His death was the sufficient sacrifice of the sins of all mankind. He rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven where he is now our High Priest and intercessor. John 1:1, 14; 1 Cor 15:3-4; Phil 2:6-8; Hebrews 5:9-10
We believe the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son, and of the same nature.
— He convicts of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He bears witness to the truth of the Gospel and regenerates the believing sinner, indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers the believer for godly living and service. John 14:16, 16:8-11; Titus 3:5
We believe that mankind was created by God – male and female – in his own image, free of sin, with the purpose to glorify himself and enjoy his fellowship.
— Man freely chose to disobey God, bringing sin and death into the world and condemning all mankind. We are all totally depraved by nature and choice. We are separated from God and subject to his wrath. Gen 1:27-31, 3:1-6; Romans 1:18, 32, 5:12
We believe that mankind is lost in sin, separated from God and unable to save himself.
— Man can only be saved, reconciled to God, through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. His shed blood was necessary as sufficient payment for sin, satisfying God’s wrath. Jesus Christ is the provision for salvation, given by grace, offered as a gift from God. 1 Cor 15:1-4; Eph 2:8-9; Hebrews 9:22; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 2:2
We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost.
— The lost will be raised to judgment and experience eternal wrath in hell. The saved will be raised to eternal joy in the new heaven and new earth in the presence of God. 1 Thess 4:13-18; Rev 20:11-15; 1 Cor 15:42-54; 2 Cor 4:14; Matt 25:46

Our Leadership

Here at Center Street Baptist, we have based our leadership team on the leadership taught in the Bible.

About Leadership

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

Eph. 4:11-13 (ESV)

Biblical Church Offices

The Bible mandates only two offices in the church – overseer and deacon. The three terms "pastor," "elder," and "bishop" or "overseer" all refer to the same office. These two offices exist within the local church, not as a hierarchy outside or over the local church. 1 Timothy 3:1-13Acts 20:17-38Philippians 1:1

Deaconesses

What are Deaconesses?

Deaconesses are the backbone of nearly every ministry at Center Street Baptist. These servant leaders are involved with nearly every one of our events, communion Sundays, weddings, funerals, receptions, home care ministries and yes, even the famed Baptist potlucks. They organize, plan, create, clean, and generally make everything happening around the church run a little smoother. They are an indispensable part of what makes Center Street tick.
